down town charity trust was set up in the year 1997 by the down town group of North Eastern India. Over the last 25 years, the trust is tirelessly striving to work towards the betterment of the people in the region by organizing numerous health camps and programs. In 2010 the Assam government granted the campus a University status as per the provisions of the Assam Private University Act 2010 vide Assam Gazette No. LGL.9/2010/11 Dated 29 April 2010 which gave birth to Assam down town University.Spreading over 50 acres of land with over 5 lakh sq. ft. of built-up area in Panikhaiti, the university offers various courses in Engineering, Computer Technology, Nursing, Commerce and Management, Paramedical, Pharmaceutical, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Humanities and Social Sciences, Agriculture and Science.It has been recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the National Assessment and Accreditation Council(NAAC) All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the Indian Nursing Council (INC), the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), UGC-Distance Education Bureau, National Council for Vocational Training and Indian Association of Physiotherapy (IAP).
Apart from education, the trust is also committed to employment-oriented training for the weaker sections of society by providing vocational and skill development training followed by placement or self-employment, under the banner of down town Skill Academy. down town Charity Trust is an Approved Training Partner of National Skill Development Corporation(NSDC).down town Charity Trust is also appointed as Industry Cum Implementation Partner with Management & Entrepreneurship and Professional Skills Council(MEPSC).
