down town charity trust was set up in the year 1997 by the down town hospital group, which is the leading hospital group of North Eastern India. Over the last 22 years the trust is tirelessly striving to work towards the betterment of the people in the region. The trust has organized numerous health camps and programs like the Smile Train program. Working towards educating the youth, it has established a full fledged education campus spread over 50 acres of land with over 5 lakh sq. ft. of built up area in Panikhaiti which is today offering various courses in the fields of Healthcare, Allied health, Engineering, Management, Paramedical, Hotel management, Pharmaceutical, Cloud computing, Vocational studies etc.
Assam down town University
In 2010 the Assam government granted the campus a University status as per the provisions of the Assam Private University act 2010 vide Assam Gazette No. LGL.9/2010/11 Dated 29 April 2010 which gave birth to Assam down town University, the second Private University in the state of Assam. Starting from its humble beginning the campus now provides almost 50 courses and has a total of over 4000 students from 10 Indian states as well as from Nepal, Bhutan, Africa and Bangladesh. Assam down town University offers the latest and continuously upgraded industry endorsed curriculum in line with the best practices of international universities. The University is committed towards quality education. It has been recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council tor Technical Education (AICTE), Indian Nursing Council (INC), Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), UGC-Distance Education Bureau, National Council for Vocational Training and Indian Association of Physiotherapy (IAP). Since, it's a new University; it will soon approach NAAC for accreditation
Apart from the regular formal education, the trust is also committed towards employment oriented training to the weaker sections of the society by providing vocational and skill development training followed by placement or self employment, under the banner of down town Skill Academy. down town Charity Trust is one of the first organizations in the entire Northeast to be affiliated with "Healthcare Sector Skill Council", Construction Skill Development Council (CSDC), Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) and Tourism and Hospitality Sector Skill Council (THSSC).
